A prince of a Southern Unionist: Meet Thomas Amos Rogers Nelson

Thomas Amos Rogers Nelson (1812-1873) was an attorney and politician in Northeast Tennessee during the American Civil War era.

He represents the 1st Congressional District in the 36th U.S. Congress (1859–1861), where he gained a reputation as a Southern Unionist—white Southerners living in the Confederate States who are opposed to secession.
